Businesswise Solutions Launches A New Apprenticeship Scheme

Businesswise Solutions Launches A New Apprenticeship Scheme

Businesswise Solutions (BWS), the North West energy specialist, is launching an apprenticeship scheme for 16-24 year-olds in and around Nelson, Lancashire, as it looks to create more jobs in the local area.

BWS is able to launch this scheme following a successful pilot with Business Development Executive, James Waring.
The 21-year-old from Clitheroe was concerned that he would be unable to find a job in the middle of a pandemic.

Determined to stand out, James researched 10 companies that he wanted to work for and hand-delivered his application letters. Only two companies responded – but one – Nelson-based procurement expert Businesswise Solutions – was so impressed that he was hired as a Sales Executive apprentice.

Explaining what made him take on an apprentice role at Businesswise Solutions, James said: “I had heard good things about Businesswise, about how it was a growing business and a great place to work. I liked the idea of working with
well-known companies across the UK and having conversations with business leaders.”

“I wanted to earn while I learn. Taking on an apprentice role has been a less stressful introduction to sales, allowing me to find my feet without the immediate pressure to meet high numbers and targets.”

Starting a new job can be daunting, discussing how he felt, James said: “I was nervous and excited. Starting a new job is always nerve racking. However, I was soon made to feel very welcome by the team. Learning remotely during lockdown 3.0 had its challenges, but I was fully supported by the sales and management team.”

“The best thing about the role for me is the feeling you get when you are performing well and have had a good week.
It gives you a real sense of accomplishment. Knowing that the opportunities I have created could lead to huge deals for the business further down the line is a real driver for me and gives me great satisfaction, especially with the potential commission that can be earned!”

Discussing the challenges he has faced within the role, James states: “Because I was new to sales, picking up the phone and pitching was a challenge. However, the Business Development team is always eager to share their expertise, which has helped me gain confidence. Everyone on the team is there to support one another, we all want to see our teammates succeed.”

James has now been with Businesswise Solutions for ten months. Discussing his progression, James said: “The business recognised my hard work and were happy with how I was progressing. Because of this, they changed my hourly apprentice rate to a more attractive salary that I was extremely happy with. BWS has also given me a salary journey that clearly lays out what I will be earning at each phase, this gives me a clear idea of what I need to do to progress and it keeps me hungry to reach the next level.

“You never know what the future holds, however, I would like to get the opportunity to progress into field sales and have face to face interaction with clients at site visits. Ultimately, all the skills I am currently learning will hopefully one day help me run a business of my own.”

Head of Business Development, Victoria said: “I have always been passionate about developing raw talent and teaching them the fundamentals. It’s important to unlock their hidden potential and see their personal growth.”

“With James, we could see the potential right away, he just needed moulding, which we did by providing him with the right induction, an individual training plan, opportunities to shadow teammates, and removing the pressure of targets during the ‘ramp up’ phase.”

Our apprenticeship scheme is an exciting opportunity for 16 to 24 year-olds who are at risk of long-term unemployment. If you are interested in becoming our next James, and gaining valuable paid work experience and employability skills then you can apply to Businesswise directly or through one of our education partners, Nelson & Colne College, Burnley College or [training provider].
